10 Minimalist Small House Trends You Must See

The trend of minimalist small houses has emerged as a panacea amidst soaring urban property prices. We know: land is getting narrower, installment amounts are getting “muscular”, and the journey from the suburbs to the city takes hours.

Gen Z and millennials—generations who are pursuing careers while building families—finally have to choose: embrace the dream of a big house (but with a thin wallet) or adapt to the concept of a more pocket-friendly tiny house.

We in the field see a clear pattern: units less than 90 m² are selling faster, even recording the highest price increases in many cities.

This means that the tiny house solution is not just a trend—it has become a mainstream choice. Minimalist small houses offer low maintenance, a lower carbon footprint, and a modern, “Instagram-worthy” aesthetic.

Industrial House In Ecuador Inspired By Exposed Concrete

This house in Ecuador features an ultra-contemporary design and is inspired by the exposed

 concrete it's made from.

CYAN arq+dis recently completed OBRA GRIS (A House in Gray), a modern home in

Puembo, Quito, Ecuador inspired by the simplicity of the materials. Bypassing a

“finished” look, the architects utilized materials, like exposed concrete, steel,

and glass, and welcomed their imperfections to achieve the industrial aesthetic they desired.

During the design process, they focused on the spatial, the aesthetic, and the adaptation of the place. The layout was kept open allowing the spaces to feel connected as the homeowners like to be in contact with each other throughout the day. The couple works from home and wanted the spaces to be adaptable depending on their daily needs. They also didn’t want it to feel like there was a difference between the living spaces and the working spaces. The rooms are open, spacious and feature all the necessary functionality, this is a rough and stripped down aesthetics with much concrete and brick.

With no finishing or decorative details to cover up mistakes during the construction process, they had to ensure everything was perfect to reach the aesthetic they wanted. The sides of the house are closed off with two exposed concrete walls to create privacy between their house and the neighbors on both sides. The back and front of the house are open with large expanses of windows to enjoy the views.

Green Architecture Design of Gimpo Art Hall by Gansam Partners

G.Lab of Gansam Partners, Seoul-based architects was design of green architecture concept building of Gimpo Art Hall. Located on the eastern end of a city block, the art hall emphasizes pedestrian access by incorporating a friendly walk into the design. The building mass is also lifted above the street level to create a covered pedestrian plaza.  Aesthetically, the structure sprouts from the ground, branches, multiplies, and envelopes the building. This structural-aesthetic reinforces Gimpo’s roots and modernization, while creating an interesting play on light and shadow. A Floating Theater nested inside the building volume allows for varying degrees of apertures which punctuate views from the interior and reveal the cityscape below.

Astounding Modern Glass House: Catskill Mountain House

Audrey Matlock Architects created an astounding modern design featuring an omnipresent contemporary lifestyle. The Catskill Mountain House, as it was named, transcends the idea of a family home – it is a transparent panoramic deck with extremely beautiful panoramic views. Knowledge, technology and dedication were the architects’ main tools in building this residence – the materials, on the other hand, were carefully chosen to be as personalized as possible, enhancing and enriching the living experience. The surrounding terrain is a rocky area, meaning that the architects were given the opportunity of cutting into the rock to build the extremely comfortable residence. The 3,700 square meters modern residence features extensive glass walls that visually bring the nature inside. The simple geometry of the structure emphasizes the strength of the indoor-outdoor connection, creating a liberating atmosphere. This fantastic glass house is closer to dream than reality, don’t you think?
